I'm sorry that I am usually unavailable to answer phone calls but I make every effort to return phone messages within 48 hours as long as I am not off campus.  Most often I return e-mails faster than phone messages.

Need a letter of recommendation?

 

Please see me in person at least 3 weeks in advance with all the details.  I may ask you to complete a "Senior Profile for Letters of Rec" so that you can provide me with more information about yourself.  Remember that CSUs and UCs do not require letters of rec (nor do they accept them).

Anecdotal Information: The Hayward High story goes way back to the late 60's when my parents met each other while both teaching at Hayward High.  (My father, Nelson Gonsalves, retired after teaching at HHS for 34 years!)  While I attended HHS as a student, I met my wife. (No, we were not high school sweethearts!)  My wife, Jennifer, taught at Burbank Elementary and then later at HHS as a Spanish and Health teacher.  She's now a BTSA Coach at various HUSD schools and supports new teachers.  

Previous schools: Mt. Eden High School, Instituto Americano (Valencia, Spain), Universidade de São Paulo (Brazil), Carter Middle School (Oakland)

Awards: 2010 Educator of the Year, California League of High Schools, Region IV

Hobbies include: Foreign Languages, Traveling at every possible opportunity, Volleyball, Tennis, Soccer, Basketball, Technology, Roller Blading, Cooking, La Piazza (La Piazza é Mia!)

Favorite thing about HHS: We are a microcosm of the United States and all its diversity and richness.  As a student, HHS prepared me for the world.
